Delayed merge queue checks due to GitHub API errors
Resolved - This incident has been resolved. Between about 9:30 AM and 3:50 PM CST, GitHub's API intermittently returned server errors when Merge Freeze posted status checks. The worst periods were 9:30–11:00 AM and 12:30–2:30 PM CST. Error rates have been back to normal since 3:50 PM. Most checks succeeded on retry, but if a merge queue entry is still stuck, remove it and re-queue it.

The worst periods were 9:30–11:00 AM and 12:30–2:30 PM CST. Most checks succeeded on retry, but some merge queue entries may not have received a status. If an entry is still stuck, remove it and re-queue it.

Investigating - GitHub's API is returning intermittent server errors, so some Merge Freeze status checks for merge queue entries are delayed or failing to post. We're retrying them automatically. This has been occurring intermittently most of the day (since 9:30 AM CST).

GitHub hasn't reported an incident yet; we're monitoring and will update here.

If a merge queue entry is stuck, removing it and re-queuing it should fix it.

Delayed status checks due to intermittent GitHub API errors
Resolved - Some Merge Freeze status checks took longer than usual to appear on pull requests and merge queue entries. Our requests to post these checks to GitHub intermittently returned errors between 9:15 AM and 4:08 PM CST, with the most errors between 12:30 and 1:45 PM CST. There was also a brief period of errors from 5:17 to 5:19 AM CST.

Most affected checks succeeded automatically on retry within about two minutes. A small number of merge queue checks could not be posted after repeated attempts. If a merge queue entry appears stuck waiting on Merge Freeze, please re-queue it.

We are monitoring until error rates return to normal.
